On this day in history:
1918: This is the only historical event we will discuss today. The Armistice, an agreement to end the fighting of the First World War as a prelude to peace negotiations, began at 11 AM on 11 November 1918.
After World War II and the Korean war, “Armistice Day” officially became “Veterans Day” on June 1, 1954, when veterans service organizations petitioned Congress to change the name from Armistice Day to Veterans Day so the day more directly honored the nation’s many veterans.
To this day in the UK “Armistice Day” is remembered with a Two Minute Silence at 11 AM on the 11th day of the 11th month.
Over 116,000 Americans gave their lives to win WW1.
